|
Guidelines:
1. Definition of Overtime
2. Overtime Compensation
3. Approval Requirements
4. Supervisor Responsibilities
- Overtime is defined as actual hours worked in excess of 40 hours during a single workweek.
- For overtime calculation purposes, paid leave (such as holidays, PTO, bereavement time, or jury duty) is notcounted as hours worked.
2. Overtime Compensation
- Nonexempt employees will be paid one and one-half times their regular rate of pay for all hours worked over 40 in a workweek.
3. Approval Requirements
- Overtime must be approved in advance by the employee’s supervisor.
- Even if not preapproved, all overtime actually worked must be paid in accordance with wage and hour laws.
- Nonexempt employees may not work off the clock or perform additional work outside their approved schedule.
- Continuous use of unapproved Overtime may lead to disciplinary action.
4. Supervisor Responsibilities
- Supervisors must monitor workloads and staffing to minimize unnecessary overtime.
- Supervisors may not discourage the reporting of overtime hours or allow employees to volunteer unpaid time.
