Missionary Separation from Employment

Purpose:

To establish consistent procedures for separation from employment or ministry service at Global Outreach International (GOI). This policy ensures that all transitions—whether voluntary or involuntary—are handled with professionalism, clarity, and integrity, while preserving continuity of ministry and protecting organizational interests.

Guidelines:

1. Voluntary Resignation
   • Missionaries, ministry partners, and employees who choose to resign from GOI are asked to provide written notice using the form on MyGlobal at least 60 days in advance of their final day of service.
   • This notice period allows for an orderly transition of responsibilities, proper communication to supporters, and administrative processing of final pay and benefits.
   • The written resignation should include the intended last day of work and may include a brief explanation of the reason for departure.
2. Involuntary Separation
   • In some cases, GOI may initiate separation due to performance issues, organizational changes, or policy violations.
   • When possible, such separations will follow GOI’s progressive discipline or performance improvement processes, except in cases of serious misconduct or immediate termination circumstances.
   • All decisions related to involuntary separation require review and approval by the Human Resources Director and the appropriate Vice President or Department Director.
3. Final Pay and Benefits
   • Upon separation, GOI will issue the employee’s final paycheck in accordance with applicable federal and state laws.
   • Any unused, accrued paid time off will be handled according to GOI’s Paid Leave Policy.
   • Health insurance or other benefits will terminate in accordance with plan provisions; eligible employees may elect continuation coverage under applicable laws (e.g., COBRA).
4. Property and Information Return
   • Before the final day of service, separating employees or missionaries must return all GOI property, including laptops, records, identification cards, GOI business credit cards, any outstanding reciepts, and any confidential materials.
   • Access to GOI systems, networks, and communication tools will be deactivated on or immediately after the final day of employment.
   • Failure to return organization property may result in withholding of final pay to the extent permitted by law.
5. Rehire Eligibility
   • Employees or missionaries who leave in good standing and provide proper notice may be eligible for rehire or reinstatement in the future.
   • Eligibility for rehire will be determined by the Human Resources Department in consultation with relevant leadership, based on prior performance and the circumstances of separation.
6. Faith-Based Commitment
   Global Outreach International views every transition as an opportunity to demonstrate grace, respect, and mutual care.
   • Whether voluntary or involuntary, separations will be handled with professionalism and compassion, consistent with GOI’s Christian values.
   • “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord” (Colossians 3:23) applies even in seasons of transition and closure.
